Stick and Puck

Welcome to Stick and Puck! The names stems from my love of the game of hockey. I cannot guarantee up-to-date hockey information here, but I can guarantee my political views and bizarre sense of humor will be in full effect. If you are easily offended, or have an affinity for the Repulican Party, you may want to read elsewhere. If you have an open mind and good sense of humor, come on in. Isn't She Lovely?

Wow... 4 weeks or less until I am a first time daddy. This is crazy stuff. I was driving to work this morning and I was listening to Howard Stern as usual. This morning Stevie Wonder was a guest and he was on promoting his new album. Howard had a baby grand rolled into the studio for Stevie to play on if he wanted to. Mary Ann from Brooklyn called in and requested "Isn't She Lovely". I knew the tune, but I had never taken the time to listen to the lyrics. What I heard made me well up with tears as it is a beautiful song and made me think about my daughter who is almost here. I can't wait to see her.

Here's the lyrics:

Stevie Wonder: Isn't she lovely?

Isn't she lovely
Isn't she wonderfull
Isn't she precious
Less than one minute old
I never thought through love we'd be
Making one as lovely as she
But isn't she lovely made from love

Isn't she pretty
Truly the angel's best
Boy, I'm so happy
We have been heaven blessed
I can't believe what God has done
through us he's given life to one
But isn't she lovely made from love

Isn't she lovely
Life and love are the same
Life is AishaThe meaning of her name
Londie, it could have not been done
Without you who conceived the one
That's so very lovely made from love.

Napoleon strikes again

This is pure gold...

Napoleon Dynamite and Pedro have been commissioned to do commercials for Utah State Fair.

Greatness.

OLN SUCKS

Ok... The NHL went on strike last year. Lost an entire season. In the process, they lost their TV deal with ESPN. Now, one year later somoene had to pick up where ESPN left off. Enter OLN, the Outdoor Life Network. Yes...this is the channel where we you can watch fishing, moose hunting, Ted Nugent hunting reality shows and NHL Hockey? OOOOOOOOOO-K?
Anyhow, Comcast Cable runs in to save the day. This is unless you are unfortunate enough to be an avid hockey fan and you have Dish Network.

You see..Since Dish Network is not an affiliate of Comcast cable, OLN won't be showing any hockey on the Dish Network feed. Why? Because Dish is actually taking a stand and telling OLN they need to offer their channel on a lower tier so more of their audience can see the games. You see...OLN is only offered on the highest tier of channels that Dish Network offers. Essenially, it's a tier of channels nobody ever watches , but you have to pay the big bucks for. Comcast bascially said F you and refuses to offer the games for Dish Network customers...and it seems they are doing it for very greedy reasons. Hooray for all NHL fans who have Dish Network.

The thing that ticks me off is that I never found out about this until after I had already orderd the channel. I came home from work quite eager to watch my two favorite teams play each other and when I turned on the TV, "The 25 hardest animals to hunt" was on in place of my game. WTF??? I called Dish Netowork, their customer service dept was left in the dark as they had no idea what was going on. OLN simply called the issue a "contract dispute". Needless to say, I cancelled OLN and made Dish Network give me a credit for this. What really ticks me off is that if I would have gone with DirectTV, I wouldn't have any problems. Now that I have a 1 year contract with Dish Network that I just signed in July, I'm screwed this season.

To this date, there hasn't been any official statement from Dish Network or the NHL. This sucks. At least I still have a partial season with the Center Ice package.

F you OLN and Comcast. F you in your ear.

Texas vs. Arizona

Yaaay! Just got back from a few days in Texas for a bachelor party. It was a lot of fun. I was down in Austin at a lake house near Lake Travis. It was good to see my buddy and to meet some really nice guys. I have to say, Texas is fun and it was nice to grow up in, but I don't think I would ever move back. I really missed Arizona while I was there. Probably had something to do with the 70% humidity in Texas versus the 10% here...but I did miss it here. There's something to be said about waking up every day and watching the sun rise over the mountains.
